Ever since Google launched the beta for their email service Gmail, there has been much controversy swirling around. Gmail's privacy practices, the amount of storage Google offers, and deletion of unwanted files have been discussed.

Now there is another reason for controversy concerning Gmail, but this time, it's not because of any policy. Recently, Gmail beta accounts have begun appearing on eBay, with one account selling for $262. People are actually paying almost $300 for an account to a service that is soon to be available to the general public FOR FREE.

As of this morning, a search for "Gmail" on eBay returns this result: "199 items found for Gmail". The demand for these accounts must stem from the fact that to be a Gmail beta tester, potential users were approved on an invite only basis. Be that as it may, paying a generous amount of money for a soon to be public service is extreme.

Currently, prices for Gmail accounts on eBay run from $201.01 to $7.50. Thanks to SearchEngineRoundtable for the tip.
