Understanding How Your Keyword Density Can Effect Your Ranking

Keyword density used to be very important for getting your web page ranked by the major search engines. (back in the day of Inktomi, AltaVista) At one time you had to have about 15 to 20 percent keyword density on your body content. Keyword stuffing was the order of the day then. You can imagine reading the content was like reading robotic script with keywords that didn't make any sense.
This type of content was great for SEO, where the search engine spider bots crawl through your pages, it would know what the page is about. But for us normal readers, this sucks in the visitor experience department! If you're a restaurant consultant and your website talked about the services that you provided in the start ups side of restaurant, but your content was stuffed with keyword phrases with "restaurant consulting". As the prospective client they probably would not call to find out more about your service. So its a good thing that most major search engines do not weigh heavily on keyword density as it did in the past. What you do now a day is to write about the subject till your hearts content. But be sure properly put in your meta tags for the title and description about your page. Here's an example for a blackberry trackball ring pink and steak seasoning:
- <title>Blackberry Trackball RingPink</title>
- <meta name="description" content="Buy Blackberry Trackball Ring Pink discounted at $2.95" />
- <title>Steak Seasoning</title>
- <meta name="description" content="Mesquite Steak Seasoning to bring your flavor up a notch at $4.95"/>
Again all you need to do is properly name your meta tag title, and description, write to your readers not spider bots.
